Rock & soul gets an epic rebirth with the introduction of multi-talented, singer-songwriter Joy Storm. Her warm, soothing vocals combined with her thought-provoking lyrics lure the audience into an elevated love and hope-filled reality. Rooted in authenticity, Joy’s contemporary sound moves people and entices them to find the deeper underlying message in her songs. Based in Chicago, Illinois, Joy draws her spell-binding smooth sound from Old School R&B/soul influences (Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, and Mavis Staples), and Rock icons (Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, and Eric Claption). A modern-day songbird, Joy is an enigma that is changing the way in which we think about music.
Inspired by her husband, Poetic Justice, Dr. Cherise Joy Thompson, professionally known as Joy Storm, recently left her corporate job in Project Management to pursue her life-yong yearning for singing. As a child, Joy was naturally musically inclined and quickly learned how to sing and play the piano from her maternal grandmother at the tender age of 7. Later on, her artistry developed as she learned the guitar and starred in the teen musical production of “Dreamgirls”. Though not always in the forefront, music has been a constant refuge and a creative form of expression. Joy uses her music as a vehicle to express her thoughts, experiences, and ambitions and tell the stories that people need to hear. She turns pain into purpose and lessons into studio sessions that produce nostalgic elements of yesteryear with re-imagined contemporary sound.
Together with her husband, they have 5 sons and founded internet radio station, CMI Radio, a Home for Independent Artists. Outside of her artistry, Joy teaches composition and literature classes at the tertiary level and hopes to empower the next generation by opening up a school for the performing arts. A fireball of originality and authenticity, Joy enjoys spreading happiness to others through her music.
