Giuliano Illiani, known professionally as Donatello, is an Italian singer born on September 11, 1947, in Tortone. He began his musical career as a member of the group Wanted's between 1962 and 1966. In 1968, he performed as a guitarist for Gianni Morandi. Illiani adopted the stage name Donatello in 1970 and performed the song “Io mi fermo qui” at the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo with the ensemble Dik Dik. That same year, the recording “Malattia d’amore” reached number 10 on the Italian chart. He released his namesake debut studio album, Donatello, in 1970. Between 1971 and 1973, he reached the final of the Sanremo festival three times with the songs “Com'è dolce la sera” and “Ti voglio”. After the 1974 release of the single “Irene” at Un disco per l'estate, he left the Ricordi label and recorded traditional Italian music. His later discography included the albums Il tempo degli dei (1975) and Un mio nonno ambulante (1978).
