Arnim LeRoy Fox was born on November 9, 1910, in Graysville, Tennessee, and became a country fiddler and singer. Better known as Curly Fox, he learned the fiddle from his barber father and James McCarroll, then played professionally on the Indian Medicine Show and with Claude Davis’s Carolina Tar Heels. In the 1930s, he founded the Tennessee Firecrackers, performed on WSB‑AM, and recorded with the Shelton Brothers for Decca (1934‑36). Fox married Texas Ruby in 1939; the duo appeared on the Grand Ole Opry and recorded a session for King Records in 1947. After moving to Houston in 1948, they worked in radio and TV until Ruby’s death in 1963. Fox continued performing solo and later moved back to Chicago, while still performing live occasionally. He died on November 9, 1995. The album 18 Old-Time Country Favorites was released in 1998.
