The Promise Ring was an American emo and indie rock band formed in February 1995 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Founded by Jason Gnewikow and Dan Didier, the ensemble added vocalist Davey von Bohlen following the departure of Matt Mangan. After a 1995 demo and East Coast tour, the group released its debut album, 30° Everywhere, in 1996, which featured the song “A Picture Postcard”. In 1997, the band released Nothing Feels Good, featuring the single “Why Did Ever We Meet”. Following a 1998 van accident, Scott Schoenbeck replaced bassist Tim Burton. The ensemble released Very Emergency (1999) and the EP Electric Pink (2000), though activity was paused for von Bohlen's brain surgery in 2000. The group signed with Anti- for its final studio album, Wood/Water (2002), before disbanding in October 2002. The ensemble resumed activity for performances between 2005 and 2016.
