German composer, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist. In the mid-1980s he studied drums and percussion at the renowned Percussion Institute of Technology (PIT) of the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. Traveling the world he discovered his passion for photography and writing which has led to numerous international and best-selling book publications, especially on the Himalayas, Tibet, and India, in addition to exhibitions as a guest curator for famous European and US-American cultural institutions.
As originally a musician by intended profession, music has always been Peter’s most intense cultural impression. It has inspired him to integrate many of the world’s diverse musical traditions into his compositional and performing work as is already revealed in his
SEVENTEEN GLOBAL GOALS SONG PROJECT
which musically focuses on the UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goals with 12 stylistically diverse song versions in 8 different languages.
Peter van Ham’s world music experiences have led to the present project
PLANET BLUE - PIECES FROM PLACES
consisting of compositions inspired by regions Peter traveled to - physically or mentally - and spanning a period of over 40 years. Often a locally caught field recording served as a starting point around which the composition evolved (e.g. Northeast India, Yemen, Papua New Guinea), or sounds and ideas were triggered by the region itself. On this album, next to composing all except for one and arranging/producing all of the titles, Peter may be heard on drums, percussion, keyboards, guitars, and occasional background vocals.
Peter continues his world-inspired musical ambitions with guitarist and composer Tilmann Höhn in a wide array of music releases.
