Hailing from Cape Town, Bongi creates music that bridges the cultures of two continents, blending urban folk and afro-pop into a sparkling mixture, while reigniting the musical traditions of Southern Africa. She performs her songs in Xhosa, her own mother tongue as well as Nelson Mandela’s native language, which is characterized by the enigmatic click sounds produced by the mouth palate, outlining a Pan-African musical arc that is both magnetic and mesmerising.
