Marko Kalfa, known professionally as Nolan Thomas, was born on August 24, 1966, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He is an American musician and fashion photographer who gained prominence as a Latin-freestyle artist. At the age of 17 he was discovered by dance-music producers Mark Liggett and Chris Barbosa while still in high school. His breakthrough came with the release of his debut single “Yo’ Little Brother” in 1984, which peaked at number 57 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s music video featured a group known as The Vid Kids, created by Stu Sleppin & Bob Teeman. In 1985 Thomas released his debut album Yo’ Little Brother on Mirage/Atco/Atlantic Records, which also included the singles “Too White” and “One Bad Apple”, both achieving modest chart presence. In the mid-1980s Thomas released further singles (rather than an extensive nationwide tour) under the name Nolan Thomas & The Vid Kids. His single “Once Around The Block” was released in 1989 under his real name Mark Kalfa. Despite his early success, Thomas moved to New York and transitioned to a career in fashion photography.
