De Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Netherlands Bach Society), a Dutch orchestra specializing in baroque music, was founded in 1921 in Naarden by Johan Schoonderbeek. The ensemble initially performed Johann Sebastian Bach's St. Matthew Passion on April 14, 1922, and has continued this annual tradition ever since at the St. Vitus Church in Naarden. Under the direction of Anthon van der Horst from 1931 to 1965, the group established regular performances of Bach's works, attracting both local and international audiences. In 1983, Jos van Veldhoven took over as artistic director, leading the ensemble until 2018, when Shunsuke Sato succeeded him. The orchestra has released numerous recordings, including a notable rendition of St. Matthew Passion directed by Van Veldhoven in 1998. In celebration of its centenary in 2021, the ensemble launched All of Bach, an online video project featuring free releases of Bach's complete works performed by members and guest musicians.
