Katarzyna Magdalena Rooijens, known professionally as Kayah, was born on November 5, 1967 in Warsaw, Poland, and is a singer, songwriter, and producer. She made her recording debut in 1988, releasing "Córeczko", which earned her a special award at the Baltic Countries Song Festival. Her breakthrough came with the 1995 album Kamień, which earned gold certification and led to Kayah winning a Fryderyk Award for Female Vocalist of the Year. Kayah followed with Zebra (1997), Kayah i Bregović (1999), which achieved diamond certification, Jaka Ja Kayah (2000), Stereo typ (2003), Skała (2009), and Transoriental Orchestra (2013), the latter achieving platinum status. She founded the label Kayax in 2001, signed emerging artists, and served as a judge on The Voice of Poland.
