The Spellbinders were an American soul vocal group from New Jersey comprising Bobby Shivers, Elouise Pennington, Dee Grant, Jimmy Wright, and McArthur Munford. They achieved their greatest success with the 1965 single "For You", which reached number 23 on the Billboard R&B chart and number 93 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their singles "Chain Reaction" and "Help Me (Get Myself Back Together Again)" later became favorites on the UK Northern Soul scene. Their only album, The Magic of The Spellbinders, was released in 1966. Although the group never matched the success of "For You", many soul fans consider their album as one of the finest examples of the genre in the 1960s. After splitting in the late 1960s, The Spellbinders reunited in 2005 for a New Jersey Soul Trip USA event organized by Chris Lalor, and Bobby Shivers subsequently continued performing under the group's name. McArthur Munford died in 2006, followed by Dee Grant in 2007.
