Klosterbrüder, a German rock band, was formed in 1963 from the dissolution of Big Town Boys and Sputniks. The group gained traction through live performances, inspired by bands like Colosseum and Jethro Tull. Their breakthrough came with "Lied einer alten Stadt" in 1975, which became a radio hit and was featured on DDR television. Despite facing pressure from DDR authorities due to their name and performances, Klosterbrüder continued to perform with a smaller lineup and secured professional musician status in the early 1970s. Internal tensions led to a name change to Magdeburg in 1975, but the band returned under their original name in 2000 following the reunification of Germany. Notable albums include Eine Legende kehrt zurück (1993) and Die grössten Hits (2007). Hans-Joachim Kneis, a founding member and vocalist, passed away in 2020.
