José Marcelino Marquetti Díaz, known as Cheo Marquetti, was born on April 26, 1909, in Havana, Cuba. He started his singing career in 1926 with sexteto Minerva and later joined the Belén Puig Orchestra and Ernesto Muñoz Conjuncto. In 1940, he recorded with Septeto Cauto, including the song "Efi Embemoro". Marquetti's career included stints with various ensembles like Septeto Hatuey and Septeto Habanero. He moved to Mexico in the mid-1940s before returning to Cuba in 1953, where he joined Orquesta Sensación and formed his own conjunto, Los Salseros, recording albums for Panart. Marquetti also appeared in Mexican movies like Cuñado los hijos se van (1941). He moved to Panama in 1961 before returning to Havana in 1963. After his return, he contributed occasionally to Grupo Tutankamen. Marquetti passed away on March 29, 1967, at the age of 57.
