Günther Rabl is an Austrian electroacoustic composer and double bassist. He began playing the double bass at the age of 16 and later studied electroacoustics at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien from 1974 to 1976. Active in the free jazz scene, he collaborated with musicians such as Leszek Zadlo and later performed in a trio with Friedrich Gulda and Ursula Anders between 1978 and 1980, as well as working with Dieter Feichtner. His breakthrough in electroacoustic music came with the premiere of Mugl entsteigt I at the Théâtre Récamier in Paris under the sound direction of François Bayle. Working extensively with tape in his own studio, he composed numerous electroacoustic works, including Styx. Rabl received several awards, including the Kulturpreis der Niederösterreichischen Landesregierung in 2000, and the Kulturpreis des Landes Oberösterreich for music in 2020.
