Keahiwai was a Hawaiian music duo composed of Mailani Makainai and Lei Melket from Mililani. They met at Maryknoll School in Honolulu in 1991 and became friends, but were unaware of each other's musical interests until 1997 when they formed a duo and won a school talent show. Keahiwai released their debut album Local Girls in 2001, which won two Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for Most Promising Artist of the Year and Favorite Entertainer of the Year. Their EP Dangerous, released in 2005, peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Magazine World Music Chart. The duo also released Merry Christmas and Changing in 2006. Makainai and Melket ceased performing as Keahiwai in 2009 to pursue solo careers.
