Shades is an American R&B group formed in the mid-1990s, consisting of Danielle Andrews, Tiffanie Cardwell, Monique Peoples, and Shannon Walker Williams. The members met while studying at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, where they discovered their shared passion for music and harmonious vocals. Their music career began with the release of their eponymous debut album Shades on July 15, 1997, under Motown Records. The album featured the lead single "Tell Me (I'll Be Around)", which reached number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a notable track on contemporary R&B radio stations. The group's debut marked a significant moment in the mid-1990s R&B scene, blending soulful vocals with modern production techniques. Despite this success, Shades disbanded later that year. The reasons for their disbandment are not publicly documented, but it is known that the members pursued individual endeavors following the group's breakup. Shades reunited in 2019, marking a significant milestone for both the group and their fans. Their reunion was celebrated with the release of a new single "This Ain’t Love".
