GANSO is a Lisbon-based band formed in 2015.
Their debut EP, Costela Ofendida, left a mark on a generation of independent music in Portugal. With their fast-paced fables, they quickly won over audiences and national radio stations. It was also one of the first releases from the newly founded Cuca Monga label. In their first two years, GANSO toured the country extensively, opened for Os Mutantes, and wrapped up with a tour alongside the Conjunto Cuca Monga collective. In 2017, they released their first full-length album, Pá Pá Pá, which deepened and developed the sound of their earlier work. A national tour followed, cementing their status as a must-see presence at alternative music festivals.
At the end of 2019, they brought us Não Tarda, a shift from upbeat rhythms to a more melancholic tone. Embracing new influences such as Haruomi Hosono and Taeko Onuki, the band showcased a refined attention to detail that would become a signature of their sound. In 2020, they featured on the Cuca Vida album as part of Conjunto Cuca Monga. They followed up with new singles Gino (O Menino Bolha) and Sorte a Minha — the latter becoming the band’s first gold-certified single.
Their third album, Vice Versa (2024), was recorded at La Frette Studios in Paris. Joining them were producer Domingos Coimbra (Capitão Fausto) and engineer Anthony Cazade (known for work with Arctic Monkeys or Nick Cave).
Known for their constant sonic and lyrical reinvention, GANSO continues to inspire and invigorate the Portuguese music scene.
GANSO are Luís Ricciardi, João Sala, Miguel Barreira, Gonçalo Bicudo and Diogo “Horse” Rodrigues.
