Motohiko Hamase, born on April 15, 1952, is a Japanese jazz and ambient musician. He first appeared in the 1970s with the Isao Suzuki Sextet, recording Ako's Dream (1976) with Tsuyoshi Yamamoto and Kazumi Watanabe. During the following decade he contributed to sessions for Takao Uematsu, Mikio Masuda, Minami Yasuda, and Kazumasa Akiyama. Notable albums include Intaglio (1986), Reminiscence (1986), and ♯Notes of Forestry (1988). In 1993, he released the jazz album Anecdote featuring Yasunori Yamaguchi and Toshio Kaji. He also led the Motohiko Hamase ELF Ensemble. Subsequent releases include a reissue of Intaglio (2018) and Reminiscence (2018).
