The Academy of Ancient Music Chorus is an orchestra formed in 1973 by Christopher Hogwood, based in Cambridge and specialized in performing music from the Baroque and Classical periods using period instruments. The ensemble initially focused on reconstructing the sounds and performance styles of the 18th century. In 1996, Paul Goodwin was named as associate conductor, and Andrew Manze became an associate musical director. Richard Egarr succeeded Hogwood as musical director in 2006, serving until 2021 when Laurence Cummings took over. The chorus has collaborated with notable figures such as Robert Levin and Steven Lubin, recording works by composers like Mozart, Beethoven, and Haydn. The chorus has also performed contemporary compositions, such as John Tavener's "Eternity's Sunrise" and "Like a Strand of Scarlet" by David Bedford.
