Black Market Rhythm Co. is an Australian rock band formed in 2004 on the Gold Coast, Queensland by Christopher Ernst, Matt Granfield, and Wayne Bennett. Initially releasing a self-titled EP under the name Christopher Ernst, they gained traction when Jake O'Brien joined on trumpet in 2005, leading to a name change to The Black Market Rhythm Co. They received consistent airplay on Triple J's Roots 'n All program and were selected for the AMRAP project. In 2006, they gained regular airplay on Triple J. In 2007, they were nominated for Triple J's annual Hottest 100 poll. Their debut album Low-Fi Records, Hi-Fi Radio was released in 2008 under the shortened name Black Market Rhythm Co., receiving critical acclaim including a four-star review from The Australian newspaper.
