James E. Holiday, known professionally as Jimmy Holiday, was born on July 24, 1934, in Sallis, Mississippi, United States. He began his career as an R&B singer and songwriter. In the early 1960s, Holiday recorded for Everest Records, where he released his first single "How Can I Forget" which reached Number 10 on the US Billboard R&B chart in 1963. His debut album Turning Point peaked at Number 25 on the Billboard R&B albums chart in 1966. Later, Holiday moved to Minit Records and released several notable works including "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" co-written with Jackie DeShannon and Randy Myers. This song became one of his most significant compositions, reaching Number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart in August 1969 under DeShannon's rendition. Holiday continued to release albums such as Spread Your Love (1970) and contributed to various compilations including Songs of Jackie DeShannon, Jimmy Holiday, Eddie Reeves. He passed away on February 15, 1987, in Iowa City due to heart failure.
