Kamifūsen, a Japanese folk duo, was formed in 1974 by Etsujirō Gotō and Yasuyo Hirayama. Both members were born in Japan: Gotō on April 29, 1946, and Hirayama on March 28, 1947. Before forming Kamifūsen, they were part of the Kansai folk group Akaitori, known for blending light rock with choral harmonies. After Akaitori disbanded in August 1974, Gotō and Hirayama started Kamifūsen, continuing to perform "Tsubasa wo Kudasai", which became a standard choral repertoire in elementary schools. Their first major hit was "Before Winter Comes" in 1977, reaching number 4 on the Oricon Singles Chart. Between 1974 and 1986, Kamifūsen released nine albums, including Here With Me (1984), produced by Henry Lewy, and Echo Of Love (1986), featuring musicians from The Anne Murray Band. In 1991, Gotō and Hirayama participated as members of TSU-BA-SA before returning to work as Kamifūsen. Notable live performances include recitals at Osaka Central Public Hall and Hyogo Performing Arts Center. Their discography includes albums like Saintjeum (2000) and Blue Sky and Sea (2001). In 2019, they held their "45th Anniversary Concert - 50th Anniversary Recital from Red Bird" at Yomiuri Ōtemachi Hall in Tokyo.
