Camerata Romeu, an all-female instrumentalist chamber music group, was founded and led by Zenaida Castro Romeu. The orchestra focused on European classical music while incorporating Cuban rhythms influenced by Spanish, African, and Latin American Indian traditions. Camerata Romeu's early performances included a tour of Florida in 1998 and an appearance at the Repertorio Español. In 2003, Camerata Romeu released Sueños De Ida Y Vuelta. The group received nominations for the Best Flamenco Album at the Latin Grammy Awards in 2003 and for Best Classical Contemporary Composition in 2008. In 2005, a documentary titled Cuba Mia: Portrait of an All-Woman Orchestra, directed by Cecilia Domeyko, won the Silver Screen awards at the US International Film & Video Festival. Camerata Romeu has performed regularly at significant events such as the Festival de Música Contemporánea in Havana and the Festival Mozart Habana in 2015.
