Jodi Miranda Martin, born on November 6, 1976, in Ceduna, Australia, is a singer-songwriter known for her work in contemporary folk and folk pop. Martin began composing songs at the age of three and started performing with her siblings in local pubs and football clubs by her teens. Her professional music career commenced in mid-1996 when she opened for Arlo Guthrie's first Australian tour while still a student. In 1997, Martin released her debut EP Sandcastles. She followed this with the album Water and Wood in 2000, which won the North Coast Entertainment Industry's Dolphin Award for Album of the Year in 2001. Subsequent releases include Twenty One Stairs (2003) and 15 Minutes Out to Sea (2005). Martin has been influenced by Joni Mitchell and has been compared to Tracy Chapman and Suzanne Vega.
