SAMA nominated indie - electro rock band The Graeme Watkins Project has released the second much-anticipated album ‘Soldier On’. The 11-track collection is scheduled to hit the shelves in mid-September 2013.
Following the remarkable success of the 4-pieced band’s debut album ‘Corridors of the Mind’ in April 2011, The Graeme Watkins Project is back with an evolved and uniquely edgy sound that is largely inspired by the 80’s era. Dance elements and strong hints of electronica have been brought in to the production to compliment the band’s energetic live performance. Keeping within their golden thread of strong melodies and hooks, the overall sound is upbeat, quirky and less serious and very much current and within what is trending globally.
“This album has been a labour of love for us. It was our focus, upon returning from the USA, to be bold and flexible with this album. We have visited a couple of genres in this album, but woven through a lot of electro pop into our usual rock vibe. We have been super precious on every element of this album and hope it translates well, as we were aware of the major risks we were taking. We hope they paid off ”
The first single off the album was ‘Fight When We’re Young’, which was produced by renowned international producer Jeff Blue, who scouted the band whilst they were in Hollywood in 2012. The follow up single is ‘Overcome’, which is gaining mass traction and is on high rotation on many radio stations across South Africa. The third single will be the title track ‘Soldier On’, which has been heard by fans at many shows over the last year and will tie in with the release of the album. Other songs that will be released to radio are ‘Fly Away’ and ‘Stand Here By Myself’.
The album was recorded at Figure of 8 Studios in Johannesburg and produced and mixed by Ryno Zeelie. All songs have been composed by the 4 band members – Graeme Watkins (vocals), Matthew Marinus (drums), Ryno Zeelie (guitar) and Rudo Pieterse (bass).
‘Soldier On’ is available for download on all major digital retailers and will be available on CD in all major music stores. The digital version of the album contains a special bonus track ‘All Said and Done’.
