Biografie

Turning the blues into a raucous, soulful, garage rock groove, Ohio two-piece The Black Keys were heavily compared to White Stripes when they first broke, before carving out a fine reputation with fans of indie, classic rock and blues alike.

Recorded on an eight-track in drummer Patrick Carney's basement, their debut album 'The Big Come Up' (2002) introduced the duo as an authentic, lo-fi rock & roll band driven by frontman Auerbach's rootsy, old-time growl. Though albums 'Thickfreakness' (2003) and 'Rubber Factory' (2004) were well-received by the critics, it took the use of their songs in TV shows and films to bring the band to mainstream attention. Their tireless years of touring came to fruition when fifth studio album 'Attack and Release' (2008) went to number 14 in the US charts and follow-up 'Brothers' (2010) reached number three. Their success was capped when they won three awards at the 2011 Grammy ceremony.

Following the release of their seventh studio album 'El Camino' (2011), the duo embarked on their first headlining arena tour, playing shows across Europe and North America before headlining festivals including Coachella in 2012. The band began a five-year hiatus following the release of their eighth studio album 'Turn Blue' to work on separate projects. They returned in 2019 with the single 'Lo/Hi' before releasing their ninth studio album 'Let's Rock' later in the year.
