Maximilian Ehrhardt belongs to the new generation of performers of historical harps who combine virtuoso playing with in-depth research into historical sources and innovative programmes and concert concepts. He regularly performs with renowned ensembles such as Concerto Copenhagen, L'Arpeggiata, Ensemble 1700 and the Wrocław Baroque Ensemble. At the same time, he realises his own artistic projects. He is the founder and artistic director of the ensemble Société Lunaire and the Tage Alter Musik am Bodensee.
Maximilian Ehrhardt studied harp with Erika Waardenburg in Amsterdam and with Mara Galassi in Milan. He is a PhD student at the Orpheus Instituut in Ghent and at the KU in Leuven. He is an honorary research associate at the Welsh National Museums Amgueddfa Cymru. In 2020, he released his solo CD “None but the Brave” with Welsh harp music from the Baroque period on Carpe Diem Records in collaboration with Deutschlandfunk Kultur. This was followed in 2023 by the world premiere recording of quartets for harp and strings by the 18th-century Belgian composer Eugène Godecharle with his ensemble Société Lunaire on the Ramée label.
