Ingibjörg Kristín Þorbergsdóttir, known professionally as Ingibjörg Þorbergs, and born on October 25, 1927, in Reykjavík, Iceland, was a composer, singer, and program director. She began singing in children's choirs and made her first public appearance on national radio at age 12. Þorbergs studied clarinet at the Reykjavík College of Music, graduating with a soloist diploma in 1952. She released her breakthrough composition "Hin fyrstu jól" in 1954, considered the first Icelandic Christmas song outside of church hymns. Throughout her career, Þorbergs composed popular songs and wrote music for the theatrical production Ferðin til Limbó. She worked at the Icelandic National Radio from 1946 until 1985. Her contributions were recognized with the Honorary Lifetime Award at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2003 and awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Falcon in 2008. Þorbergs passed away on May 6, 2019.
