Unknown Caller creates music inspired by warm nights, nostalgia and life in New York. Blending together sun-faded synths and smooth grooves, he creates a funky, laid back vibe, reminiscent of Toro y Moi or Still Woozy, while weaving in the sentimental charm of city pop.
As an artist, Unknown Caller is truly self-contained – writing, recording and producing songs in his bedroom and backyard. Always experimenting with different genres and visual identities, Unknown Caller has released songs spanning from lofi beats to indie rock, most recently releasing his vaporwave project, “Midnight Deluxe,” in January 2021. This release saw over 100 Bandcamp purchases in the first hour of its release and was featured in Bandcamp’s highlights, selling out its limited run of cassette tapes in its first weekend.
With a strong start to the year, Unknown Caller doesn’t plan to slow down – three new singles will be released over the summer, with two more due in the fall. The first single, ‘Waste Our Time,’ (out April 16) is an ode to the summertime, featuring slacked-out guitars, shimmering synths and silky vocals. The track was mastered by Bobby Knepper (Dreamer Boy, Felly, Estef) and features cover art designed by Ishaq Fahim (Polyvinyl Records, Dante Elephante, Brother Sports).
“It’s sort of like a hopeful, post-quarantine love song. I wrote this last summer in the backyard of my childhood home, imagining what next summer could look like after the world emerges from hibernation. During lockdown, I wasted plenty of idle time alone, binging shows and getting lost in random Wikipedia rabbit holes. I thought it might be more fun to waste time with another person, once things return to normal.”
With support from Bandcamp, Business Casual, Nice Guys, BIRP.FM, DIY Mag, It’s All Indie, and live performances alongside Danz CM (fka Computer Magic) and FM Attack, Unknown Caller continues to evolve as an artist in 2021, releasing new music, connecting with listeners and exploring creative mediums of expression.
