New album 'Micro Biome' out now.
With accolades from the UN and having toured to over 20 countries, Formidable Vegetable inspire folks from 5 to 95 to grow their own food, restore their own ecosystems and live a better life with irresistibly funky home-scale solutions to the many problems of the world. From the local farmers market to massive festivals such as Glastonbury, Formidable Vegetable are as at home on stage alongside the likes of Radiohead, Dolly Parton and The Rolling Stones as they are in their own garden.
Founded by ukulele-strumming ecological troubadour Charlie Mgee, the band has organically grown their dedicated following over the years on a mission to inspire local action for global issues and now find themselves firmly planted in the fertile soils of the growing regenerative movements worldwide.
Charlie grew up in an off-grid mud brick shack among trees, chickens and a veggie garden, later graduating to a waste vegetable oil-powered fire truck he converted to a tiny house. Inspiring minds young and old with songs about simple solutions for living a good life, Formidable Vegetable are most at home on the live stage, whether it be to heaving crowds at Glastonbury Festival (where they’ve performed several times) or school kids rocking out in the playground.
No strangers to the international festival circuit, Formidable Vegetable have toured to more than 20 countries, but according to the BBC, became the first band in the world to turn down the huge opportunity to perform at Glastonbury Festival due to the ecological impact of international travel. They have, however still found ways of using their unique brand of musical activism to compost the problems of the world and grow community-scale solutions in their place.
Whether it’s getting to gigs powered by waste veggie oil, crashing on couches or handing out heirloom vegetable seeds at their shows, Formidable Vegetable try to walk the walk of sustainability and regenerative living wherever they can on the road and at home. Through their relentless ongoing commitment to the movement and the music, Formidable Vegetable have cemented themselves as favourites on the bill of Australian and international festivals, having regularly played at some of the biggest arts & music events in the world such as Woodford and MONA FOMA (Australia), Shambhala (Canada), Symbiosis (USA) and Glastonbury (UK) alongside such acts as Dolly Parton, Radiohead, Tame Impala and The Rolling Stones.
