Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, she was nurtured in a working-class family that valued soul, gospel, and resilience. Her mother, a dedicated licensed nurse, and her father, a Ford plant worker and pastor, instilled in her a strong foundation of love, discipline, and music. Family gatherings, dinner together, prayer, and gospel music filled their home, shaping her early life and future creative endeavors.
Music ran deep in her family. Her mother was a gifted singer, and her father wrote lyrics and sang from the heart. Her siblings were also musically inclined, playing various instruments. She sang in the choir from a young age and was encouraged by her parents to develop her talent. Outside of her family, she drew inspiration from iconic artists like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Fela Kuti, Angela Bofill, Mary J. Blige, Luther Vandross, and Stevie Wonder. She practiced diverse styles, blending them into her unique sound.
She attended the prestigious Academia of Renaissance High School and later studied music at institutions like the Clark Conservatory of Music, Wayne State University, University of Michigan, and Full Sail University. However, her real training came from life, church choirs, talent shows, music competitions, and studio sessions. Touring with Mary J. Blige and working with mentors taught her discipline, poise, and the art of conveying emotion through music. She learned to treat the microphone as a conversation partner and developed the skills to pour her heart into every performance.
With experiences spanning over 30 countries, she has become a seasoned artist. She's a member of esteemed music unions like SAG-AFTRA and the Musicians Union. Her goals include becoming a Grammy voter and winner. Through her music, she aims to touch hearts and souls worldwide, leaving a lasting legacy. Every experience, from auditions to writing and producing music, has helped shape the artist she has become. She feels music allows her to connect with everyone she meets or doesn't meet through sound, satisfying her soul.
——-One of the most unforgettable chapters in my journey has been singing background for Mary J. Blige. That experience taught me what it meant to bring your full truth to every performance. I also had the honor of singing background vocals for the legendary Biggie Smalls on the Jon Stewart show, which is something few can say—his energy in the studio was magnetic. More recently, I collaborated with Nigerian rap artist Magnito, blending my sound with his on a track that reached across genres and continents. Each of these moments reminded me that my voice belongs in rooms where greatness lives—and I plan to keep showing up.—
