EARLY LIFE:
Born in Montana as the youngest of 5 children, OverTime grew up with a 2 family life after the divorce of his parents when he was 3. Shortly after the divorce, OverTime moved to Missoula, MT where he experienced a more “city-like” life with his mother. His father, a miner and rancher, remained in the small country town of Whitehall, MT where OverTime spent his summers giving him the best of both worlds. The value of work was learned at an early age by growing up in the classic “Blue Collar” family. His mother, who’s worked for the railroad his entire life would work 50+ hrs per week, and his father would work even more.
As OverTime grew, sports became a major part of his life. He was a 3 sport athlete playing basketball, football, and baseball - which would become his primary sport. At 16, his mother took a job in a rural Montana town (Absorkee, MT) that didn’t offer high school baseball. His parents agreed to allow him to continue to live in Missoula, MT by himself so he could pursue sports at a competitive level as long as he maintained his grades and kept his focus. So, what happens when you have a 16 yr old kid living on his own with little to no supervision? Parties became more of a focus than school and sports. This began a period of drinking and drug use.
At 20 years old, OverTime made the decision to put down the drugs and begin creating music. Living in Montana, rap music wasn’t the prominent genre of choice by most so this came with a lot of scrutiny. In 2006, OverTime released his first album while working as a painter and toured around Montana performing on any stage he could - often paying promoters to get stage time. It soon became obvious to him that the record industry wasn’t looking to sign any rappers from Montana so he began studying the industry and how it worked. Rather than seeking the services of different professionals to handle those things for him, he learned each role and applied them himself.
In 2015, things began to click for OverTime. He realized the music he'd been making was not the route he needed or wanted to go. He got back to his roots. He no longer wanted to be a “rapper” in a sense - he just wanted to be himself. A kid that grew up in Montana riding horseback, ATV’s, motorcycles, shooting guns, and wearing “work” style jeans, playing in the mud, and listening to Randy Travis with his Dad.
OverTime found a group of blue collar working class type hip hop fans who simply want something to relate to. His music has transformed from “urban” style hip hop, to a more Country/Rock style Hip Hop. If you’ve never seen OverTime perform with his band The Blue Collar Soldiers Band, you've been missing out!
