Wakal (Jorge Govea) Mexican-born musician producer and industrial designer. He begins an early musical career on the rock scene, author of several, disks he takes part in a large number of art festivals since 1991.
In addition to his interest in conventional analogue instruments, in 1998, he starts experimenting with noises and outdoor sound recordings.
With these recordings he originated a deep work of sound exploring, demonstrating the tonality and rhythm of street sounds and how they could be adapted to electronic music. In 1999, a crucial moment for urban popular identity, this music along with video images gave birth to project WAKAL reflection of Latin American societies. In the years 2000, he takes part in Mexican collective “Chillandgo”and Konfort Records. His first album “POP STREET SOUND” is released under this label. It mixes a large variety of electronic musics such as house, D&B, down-tempo, with street recordings in order to create a Pop style, a sound nurtured with urban chaos, rhythms and richness. In 2003 in Europe, he collaborates with label Filtro Records and artists such as Plug and Karras to release, under French cinema specialized label Mk2 Music and distributed by Discograph, a vinyl named “REMIXES PAISANO“ This production sounds much more experimental, deconstructed and abstract. In 2005, he produces his second album “DESVIA SI ON AGAIN” distributed in Europe by MK2 Music, and by Discos Konfort in America. This album is about worldwide migratory phenomenon and its effect on a population that migrates in search of better living conditions while leaving behind its memories, roots and to a certain extent dreams
