Shei, a 25-year-old Belgian artist of Indian descent, has carved out a distinctive niche in the music world as a rapper, songwriter, singer, and producer. His diverse musical upbringing in a multicultural household laid the foundation for his rich artistic palette. His parents introduced him to classic Bollywood hits from Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar, while his sisters introduced him to boy bands like Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC. Shei's early years were steeped in a variety of musical influences.
Shei's journey into hip-hop began during his teenage years, ignited by his discovery of legendary artists such as Eminem and 2pac. This revelation transformed his passion for poetry into a deep love for hip-hop, as he saw in rap a medium where poetry meets rhythm and music. Further influenced by artists like Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole, Shei was inspired to pursue a career in music.
In 2017, Shei took a significant step towards realizing his dream by relocating to LA to study at the Musicians Institute. Under the guidance of Old Man Saxon, he honed his skills and graduated in 2019 with a Certificate in the Independent Artist Program. His time in LA was pivotal and led to collaborations with artists like REV, Eshani, and Anja Nissen, where he contributed to their writing and recording projects.
Shei's musical journey then took him to London, where he completed a BA in Music Production and Sound Engineering in August 2022. Fruitful collaborations with fellow graduate and producer Josh Anton, singer-songwriter Ronam, and Ableton specialist Anna Lakatos marked his time in London.
