Who's That Girl? |
The daughter of a cook and a shipyard worker living in humble conditions, Annie Lennox's early prowess as a singer and pianist paved the way for her to become one of the UK's most popular and enduring artists. Winning a place at London's Royal Academy of Music, she studied flute and classical music, but her life was transformed after meeting musician Dave Stewart. Their first band together The Tourists had a couple of minor hits, but it was their synth-pop band Eurythmics which turned Lennox into an international superstar with a string of massive '80s hits like Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This), Here Comes The Rain Again, Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves and Who's That Girl? When they effectively split in 1990 Lennox embarked on a solo career with hit albums Diva, Medusa and Bare, became involved in AIDS-awareness activism and other humanitarian campaigns and cemented her position as a British national treasure.
