In her long, spectacular rollercoaster career, Tina Turner initially found fame with her domineering husband Ike before re-emerging as one of the world's most exciting solo performers, and an inspiration for modern stars like Beyoncé. As a teenager, her raunchy gospel-fuelled singing proved a sensation in Ike's Kings of Rhythm band and, later, the Ike and Turner Revue. She married Ike in 1958 but it was a tempestuous - and according to her later autobiography - violent relationship, which produced high energy classics like the Phil Spector-produced River Deep Mountain High and Nutbush City Limits. She fled the marriage in 1976, and released her debut solo album Rough in 1978, with a rockier style. What's Love Got To Do With It?, Private Dancer (1984) and Simply The Best (1989) confirmed her iconic status as she went on to become a movie star in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, with her own life immortalised in the film What's Love Got To Do With It? (1993).
