Formed in 2009 under the banner of YG Entertainment, 2NE1, a South Korean girl group comprising pop vocalists Bom, Dara, CL, and Minzy, swiftly ascended to stardom. Their journey to fame began with the collaborative single "Lollipop," featuring the boy band BIGBANG. Following this, their debut extended play 2NE1 in the same year spawned hits like "Fire" and "I Don't Care," with the latter earning them the prestigious Mnet Asian Music Award for Song of the Year, a significant milestone for a debut idol group. The girls continued their chart-topping streak with subsequent releases, including their 2010 album To Anyone, produced by will.i.am, which soared to Number 1 on Korean charts and peaked at number 7 on Billboard's World Albums Chart. Their 2011 EP, 2NE1 2nd Mini Album, also achieved remarkable success, boasting chart-toppers like "Lonely," "I Am the Best," and "Ugly." 2NE1's dominance continued with non-album singles such as "I Love You," "Falling in Love," and "Missing You," all reaching Number 1 in Korea between 2012-2013. Their second album Crush in 2014 further solidified their global presence, reaching the second spot on Korean charts and US World Charts, ninth on Billboard's Independent Albums Chart, and 61st on the Billboard 200. It spawned singles like "Gotta Be You," "If I Were You," and "Crush," which also charted highly. Their 2014 release Crush marked a significant milestone in K-pop history, being the first album by a Korean artist to break into the top 100 of the US Billboard 200, debuting at number 61. However, the group announced a hiatus, with Minzy departing in April 2016 and the remaining members disbanding later that year. Their final single as a trio, "Goodbye," was released in January 2017, bidding farewell to their loyal fanbase. 2NE1 reunited for the first time since their disbandment in April 2022, to the delight of their fans, delivering a memorable performance at Coachella. The reunion was lauded as one of the festival's standout moments, reaffirming their status as icons of the K-pop industry.
