Joe Dassin, who died aged 41 in 1980, was a singer in the French pop style, the son American film-maker Jules Dassin and violinist Beatrice Launer-Dassin. Born in New York, he appeared in some of his father's movies after the director moved to Paris to escape the Hollywood blacklist of the 1950s. He began his recording career in 1964 and had hits in France with 'Le Petit Pain au Chocolate' (1969), 'Les Champs-Elysées' (1969), 'L'Amerique' (1970), 'L'ete Indien' (1974) and 'Et Is Tu n'Existais Pas' (1975). He recorded the albums 'A l'Olympia' (1974), 'Le Jardin du Luxembourg' (1978) and 'Les Femmes de Ma Vie' (1978). Several albums were released posthumously including 'Joe Dassin in New York' (1999) and 'Joe Dassin Chante Avec les Choeurs de l'Armée Rouge' (2015). He died of a heart attack in Tahiti.
