Jason Paul Douglas Boyd (September 4, 1979), aka Poo Bear, is an American songwriter and producer, mainly known for having co-written some of Justin Bieber’s biggest hits. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he relocated to Atlanta with his mother after a tornado destroyed their home. Poo Bear took his first steps in music collaborating with the R&B group 112, for whom he wrote the songs “Dance With Me” and “Peaches & Cream.” 112's success helped him get his foot in the door in the music industry, and soon enough he was working with the likes of Chris Brown, Jill Scott, and Mariah Carey. In 2004, Poo Bear co-wrote Usher’s “Caught Up,” contained in the singer’s diamond-selling album Confessions. After meeting Justin Bieber in 2013 through rapper Lil Twist, Poo Bear spent the following years working almost exclusively with the Canadian singer, co-writing most of the material on Bieber’s Journals (2013) and Purpose (2015). 2018 marked the release of his studio debut Poo Bear Presents Bearthday Music, which featured the single “Hard 2 Face Reality,” a collaborative track with Bieber and Jay Electronica that reached Number 6 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart. More success followed in subsequent years through his involvement with Bieber, most notably on the remix version of Luis Fonsi’s Despacito (2019), named the Number 1 Latin song in the history of the Billboard charts, and Dan + Shay’s “10,000 Hours,” which topped the Hot Country Songs chart.
