Extreme resulted from a collaboration between two big talents - singer Gary Cherone and guitarist Nuno Bettencourt - who started writing together after playing in separate bands The Dream and Sinful respectively. Along with The Dream's drummer Paul Geary and bass player Pat Badger from the band In The Pink, the band developed a hard rocking style that earned them a deal with A&M Records. They released their self-titled first album in 1989, but it was their second, Extreme 11: Pornograffiti in 1990, which established them as an international arena band on the back of the power ballad More Than Words, a Number 1 smash built around Cherone's compelling vocals and Bettencourt's agile acoustic guitar. Another album, 111 Sides To Every Story in 1992 also sold well, though 1995's Waiting For The Punchline had disappointing sales and Extreme disbanded in 1996 with Cherone joining Van Halen. They reunited for a short tour in 2004 and were out on a world tour again in 2008/9.
