Antón Álvarez Alfaro (July 16, 1990), better known by his nom de plume C. Tangana, is a Spanish rapper and singer-songwriter. Born and raised in Madrid, he kicked off his music career in 2005 under the pseudonym Crema, posting several freestyle videos online and releasing the EP Él Es Crema, followed by Madrid Files and Septiembre in 2006. He is also a founding member of the hip-hop collective Agorazein, who made their debut in 2011 with the LP Kind of Red. That same year, he adopted the alias C. Tangana and self-released an eponymous album to favorable reviews. All of the elements surrounding C. Tangana’s musical identity came together on 2012’s Love, an album that bridged the gap between traditional Spanish music, trap, hip-hop, and beyond. After briefly shying away from the public eye in 2013, C. Tangana returned with the EP Trouble + Presidente (2014) and the mixtape 10/15, heavily influenced by Canadian rapper Drake. His big breakthrough arrived in 2016 with the single “Antes de Morirme,” a collaboration with producer Alizzz and then-girlfriend Rosalía that climbed to Number 26 on Promusicae’s rankings and was later included in the soundtrack of the Spanish Netflix show Élite. Ídolo, C. Tangana's first release for Sony Music, saw the light in 2017 and solidified his status as one of Spain's fastest rising stars. In 2018, he was awarded two Latin Grammy awards for his participation as co-writer on Rosalía’s critically-acclaimed sophomore effort El Mal Querer. Two years later, C. Tangana dropped the chart-topping EP Bien, which found him moving away from his trademark style and getting closer to emo and pop-rap. Preceded by the Number 1 singles “Demasiadas Mujeres” and “Tú Me Dejaste de Querer,” the blockbuster LP El Madrileño hit the shelves in 2021 and quickly rose to the top of both the Spanish and global charts, breaking all-time streaming records along the way. The album featured appearances by Flamenco legends Niño de Elche (“Un Veneno - G Mix”) and Kiko Veneno (“Los Tontos”) with additional cameos by Latin singer-songwriters Jorge Drexler (“Nominao”) and Andrés Calamaro (“Hong Kong”).
