Tones and I

Toni Watson, known as Tones and I, is an Australian singer-songwriter who rose to international fame in 2019 with her hit single "Dance Monkey." Born in Mount Martha, Victoria, she learned to play the keyboard in high school, later performing on the streets of Melbourne and uploading her covers on video streaming sites. Meeting her manager by chance while she was busking on the streets of Byron Bay in 2017, she signed with Sony Music Australia's Bad Batch Records two years later, who released her debut song, "Johnny Run Away," which peaked at number 12. Her second single, "Dance Monkey," shot to the top of the charts in over 30 countries, becoming a 15x platinum hit and earning her four ARIA Awards, including Best Female Artist. The hit song was featured on the EP The Kids Are Coming (2019), alongside "Never Seen the Rain," which reached number 7. Cancelling her tour due to the pandemic, she remained on the Australian charts over the coming years with tracks "Bad Child," "Fly Away," and "Cloudy Day" from her debut album Welcome to the Madhouse (2021). Despite receiving mixed reviews, the record debuted at Number 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, with "Cloudy Day" earning her an ARIA Award for Song of the Year. In March 2022, she released "Eyes Don't Lie" and collaborated with Macklemore on "Chant" in July, followed by "Charlie" in August. She returned in early 2024 with "Dreaming" and "I Get High" from her sophomore album Beautifully Ordinary, which appeared in August that year.
