Born in Chicago and raised in New York, Anastacia's future as a performer was somewhat predestined, thanks to her singer father and actress mother. However, her first choice of career was as a dancer, despite the onset of often debilitating Crohn's disease at the start of her teens. That was until her appearance on MTV talent show, The Cut which was to change the popstrel's history. Offers from record labels flooded in and the diminutive American soon signed with Sony Music's independent Daylight arm. Her debut album, Not That Kind, was released in 2000, becoming an overnight success story and breaking the Top 10 in most countries throughout Europe. I'm Outta Love pushed the album further up the charts and Anastacia hit the big time. A performance for VH1's Diva's Live soon followed in 2002, seeing the star strut her stuff alongside the likes of Mary J. Blige, Shakira and Cher. Since then, Anastacia has released a further three albums and, although achieving respectable sales, none have yet matched the commercial success of her uber-popular first album.
