Scandal

An all-female rock band from Osaka, Japan, Scandal was formed in 2006 by high school students Haruna Ono, Mami Sasazaki, Tomomi Ogawa, and Rina Suzuki. After releasing indie singles like "Space Ranger," "Koi Moyō," and "Kagerō" in 2008, the group signed with Epic Records Japan and released its major-label debut album, Best Scandal, in 2009. The album hit Number 5 on the Oricon Albums Chart and featured four Top 40 hits: "Doll," "Sakura Goodbye," "Shōjo S," and "Yumemiru Tsubasa." The album Temptation Box followed in 2010, hitting Number 3 in Japan and earning Scandal its third Top 10 hit with "Shunkan Sentimental." 2011's Baby Action peaked at Number 4 and featured three more Top 10 hits, including the best-selling single of the band's career, "Scandal Nanka Buttobase." After charting at Number 4 with 2012's Queens Are Trumps: Kirifuda wa Queen, Scandal hit Number 3 with 2013's Standard and 2014's Hello World. Yellow peaked at Number 2 in 2016, as did the compilation album Scandal in 2017. After 2018's Honey, the band released 2020's Kiss From the Darkness and 2022's Mirror. The stand-alone single "Line of the Sight" followed in 2023, reaching Number 21 on the Top 50 Oricon chart.
