Zakk Wylde originally gained fame as guitarist with Ozzy Osbourne's band and, after falling out with Osbourne, he initially launched a solo career before forming the ferocious heavy metal band Black Label Society.
Originally from New Jersey, he started playing guitar at the age of eight and his initial major influence was Peter Green, founding member of Fleetwood Mac. He formed his own band Stone Henge with limited success before coming to the attention of Osbourne, playing on his 'No Rest for the Wicked' album and remained with Osbourne for several years. He quit in 1995 to form the power rock trio Power & Glory and then released a largely acoustic solo album 'Book of Shadows' before forming Black Label Society with drummer Phil Ondich to record the 1998 album 'Sonic Brew'. A second guitarist Nick Cantanese and bassist John DeServio were added as the band developed their full-blooded rock style and became a regular touring outfit.
Through the years they went through a series of different line-ups before Wylde and DeServio were finally joined by Jeff Fabb on drums and Dario Lorina on rhythm guitar to create a settled line-up. Wylde remained the primary driving force throughout these years as singer, songwriter and lead guitarist, while filling in all the additional instrumentation on the albums. They returned to the fray with the singles 'Room of Nightmares' and 'All That Once Shined' in 2017 ahead of their dynamic 2018 album 'Grimmest Hits', with Wylde paying homage to his heavy metal heroes, notably Black Sabbath.
