Born in southern Brazil, André is a singer, songwriter and visual artist with a bachelor's degree from UFRGS (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul), where he had his first formal contact with art and aroused his interest in following this path.
Raised in a family environment focused on music, with the brothers also rehearsing their own flights, he was taught by his father, at the age of five, to play the cavaquinho and the six-string guitar. His father, Nicomedes, was a musician and great lover of Villa-Lobos and Giuseppe Verdi, author of his favorite opera: “Aida”.
In his house, all kinds of music could be heard, with different rhythms and references, such as: opera, classical, MPB, instrumental and folk.
Soon André also started to compose and, at the age of fifteen, he wrote songs for singers that he liked to listen to on the radio, which made his taste and interest in music take on greater proportions.
He listened to everything from the Beatles to the Bee Gees, Taiguara and Agostinho dos Santos, as well as composers such as: Chico Buarque, Gil, Caetano, the great Maria Callas, Ângela Maria, Elis Regina and lots of good music.
At the age of twenty-six, after having taken some courses in the field of music at the University, he began his musical career.
At the time, André heard on the radio that the OSPA Symphonyc Choir (Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre) needed singers and were auditioning.
He auditioned and passed, as he possessed the essentials for music: some natural technique, talent, sustain and vocal tuning.
Since then, the choir has helped him in the experience of “building” a solid singer, with a beautiful lyrical tenor timbre and always very confident, disciplined and strong. He was part of the Symphonic Choir for thirty years, being one of the singers who participated for the longest time.
In these thirty years, it was conducted by the greatest maestros in Brazil and in the world, such as: Eleazar de Carvalho, Isaac Karabtchevsky, Enrico Ricci, Henrique Morelembaum, David Machado, Kurt Mazur, Lutero Luiz, Ernani Aguiar, Cláudio Ribeiro, Martinho Lutero, Arlindo Teixeira, Tiago Flores and finally Manfredo Schmiedt and Evandro Mattè.
"Owner of a peculiar timbre, André López was one of the safest tenors who ever participated in the OSPA Symphonic Choir, throughout my 24 years at the head of this important institution in our Rio Grande do Sul. The level of tuning and rhythmic, he always conveyed tranquility to me during rehearsals and presentations. His calm way of arriving and at the same time concerned with the most diverse details, made him an icon within the group.”
Manfredo Schmiedt
He took lessons with the singing teacher and tenor Decápolis de Andrade, whom he considers one of the important figures in his training.
In the nineties, he performed in several concerts, masses and operas and also in the international production of “The Magic Flute”, by Mozart, under the artistic direction of the italian producter Stefano Poda.
He participated in concerts with Bibi Ferreira and Edson Cordeiro and also in the memorable concert by Roberto Carlos and Luciano Pavarotti at Beira-Rio Stadium in Porto Alegre / RS.
He taught singing and conducted the group Vocal Cantares from Canoas / RS, during five years.
He left the OSPA COIR in 2016, already with a solo project alined with he desired from music: fusion of styles and techniques, repertoire engaged with his cultural, authorial and ideological formation, in addition to freedom of choice format and composition of the music.
The “music in progress” called Amoresmeus began in 2016, co-authored with producer Alexandre S. Machado.
Tenor André López currently combines the technique of the erudite with popular, religious, folkloric and world singing.
He works with songs that are often forgotten, others of an authorial nature and some with their own particularities and consistent with the work in progress amoresmeus.
