The world's pioneering and only Jewish mariachi, was founded in 2018 under the initiative of Venezuelan Jewish musician Yojanan Peretz, who established himself in Israel that same year. Their distinctive sound adds an Israeli touch to mariachi performances, blending two cultures in a unique way. With the goal of spreading the charm of mariachi among the Israeli audience, Mariachi Jerusalem has passionately and dedicatedly taken mariachi music to the stages of Israel.
This talented ensemble is composed of young Jewish musicians of Latin American origin who made Aliyah to Israel, as well as Israeli musicians who fell in love with mariachi and joined this musical adventure. Mariachi Jerusalem takes pride in representing Israel at the International Mariachi and Charro Encounter, a renowned annual event, with the year 2022 marking the first time an Israeli mariachi performed in Mexico, bringing the essence of two cultures in every note.
Today, Mariachi Jerusalem performs on various types of stages in Israel, from festivals to private events, and works on producing Jewish music with mariachi influences. They have recorded extraordinary versions of anthems such as "Hatikva" in mariachi style, as well as iconic songs like Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," "Ani Eshtaguea," among others. Their passion for music and commitment to cultural diversity make Mariachi Jerusalem a unique musical experience that blends Jewish heritage and the mariachi spirit.
