Adrianne Elizabeth Lenker is an American singer-songwriter best known as the lead vocalist and chief songwriter for the rock band Big Thief. Born on July 9, 1991, in Indianapolis, Indiana, she grew up mainly in Minnesota, where her parents participated in a Christian cult. Having written her first song at age 8, her solo debut Stages of the Sun (2006) was released when she was just 14 years old. It was not until 2014 that she released the follow-up Hours Were the Birds. During this time, Adrienne Lenker met guitarist Buck Meek at a show in Boston, leading to the creation of Big Thief. The band's first two releases—Masterpiece (2016) and Capacity (2017)—garnered extensive critical acclaim and led to the group signing with cult indie label 4AD. Her third studio album, Abysskiss, was released in 2018. Preceded by the singles "Cradle," "Symbol," and "From," the LP reached number 10 in the US Heatseekers charts. Two years later, she released two albums titled songs and instrumentals, which peaked at number 12 on the Americana/Folk Albums Chart. Adrianne Lenker's sixth solo effort, Bright Future, was released in March 2024. Yet another critical success, the album went to number 15 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart and charted in several European countries, cracking the Top 10 in the UK and peaking at number 92 in Germany.
