Before making his major label debut with Universal Music Canada / Island Records in 2019, Johnny began his career by posting covers on YouTube and Musical.ly. His debut EP,Teenage Fever, which included numerous international hits, helped propel him to where he is today. The EP included 2018's Canadian Gold certified "What If" (feat. Mackenzie Ziegler), which clocked 109 million-plus global streams and over 21 million music video views in under twelve months, captured #1 on the musical.ly Global Song Chart and landed on the Spotify Viral 50 in 33 countries. A re-titled version, "What If (I Told You I Like You)", was released due to the massive success the song received on TikTok, where it received over 12 million video creations. The re-titled release resulted in over 5 billion views and was trending in over 15 countries globally, including the U.S., U.K., Germany, Brazil, Canada and Australia.
Johnny continued his musical success in 2021 with the release of four new tracks, his third consecutive year winning an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Canadian Act, and garnering nominations for Pop Album of the Year at the 2021 JUNO Awards for his 2020 EP,It’s Never Really Over.
