Lastmonday was born and raised in the Kingsbridge area of the Bronx, which was then teeming with drug dealers and hustlers. His childhood was chock-a-block with unique memories of ”fly” cars rolling by with tints and custom exhausts, of cops pulling up and chasing down neighbors and of the then frequent deportations of friends sent back to the Dominican Republic and elsewhere. Lastmonday was initially tempted by the glitz and glamor of that lifestyle and at times succumbed, dabbling in some of the street shenanigans, until he discovered his saving grace: architecture. It was something that came naturally to him and became his refuge. And it was also his ticket out of the area and his means to making a difference in the lives of those for whom he designed. His studies began at an early age at a specialized high school, and from there he dove fully into residential architecture as soon as he could. He took to it with aplomb, growing fond of the complexity behind every design and of the resplendent facades he would devise, each with their own imprimaturs. The whole process was intoxicating; he loved not merely creating art for people to see but designing something that families could live and grow in.
Despite blazing his own trail in this field and leaving an impressive mark, music was his outlet, his ultimate form of expression. Lastmonday remembers learning how to play the guitar at an early age. And from there the passion grew. At first he channeled the likes of ASAP Rocky, Travis Scott, Future and Young Thug and Latin artists like Arcångel, Daddy Yankee, Tego Calderon to Wisin y Yandel but soon he personalized it and developed his own flair. He leaned heavily into his experience growing up in the Big Apple and wove in the vibrant sounds of his Dominican roots and of the Hispanic culture that raised him.
And that’s where his persona was born. Lastmonday began to branch out and introduce his music to the world. He reached out to his network of friends and built a cult following of people who connected immediately with his sound. He started performing live at clubs in front of packed houses at esteemed venues like the Highline Ballroom, Cielo and La Esquina in Soho. Lastmonday has discovered in music the same camaraderie, shared set of goals, and freedom of expression that he found in his architectural designs. He’s both a byproduct of the hustle and bustle of the city and true to the core of his Hispanic roots. He’s a burgeoning new superstar, a bridge between the Latin and American culture, an emblem of a Latino culture that is emerging and finally taking a victory lap. Lastmonday is ready to unveil his music and bring his unique sound and the community that helped engender it to the forefront.
