Three of Irish music's major forces have come together to form the new and exciting powerhouse trio, Topos. Tola Custy, Paul McSherry and Karol Lynch, founding members of the highly acclaimed Irish band Guidewires, have in the past, between them, been members of ground-breaking bands Tamalin, Stockton's Wing and Calico, as well as contributing their vast talents to artists such as Eddi Reader, Liam O’Maonlaí and Donal Lunny, among others. Custy is arguably one of Ireland's finest fiddle players, McSherry one of its greatest guitarists and Lynch one of its most gifted multi-instrumentalists. Topos' new offering is a collection of original music and a 'must have' for all lovers of Irish music.
Topos are great friends, whilst locking themselves away in the pursuit of highly listenable, introspective creations, taking inspiration from the differing worlds of Irish Traditional music and other sounds that float over the sea from places afar.
In this quest they set about exploring the space between the notes; a land where melody and silence mix freely, and emotion can soar.... ; moulding and coaxing their ideas around a common theme; being flexible enough to run with the notion rather than making the conclusion self-centred and lost. Yes, indeed lofty aspirations from a seemingly age-old combination of Fiddle-Guitar-Mandolin. That is only until one hears that very emotion explode through the gorgeously coloured tapestries of their many compositions.
